Douglas and Laurie Wilcox, authors of Do What Is Right: 52 Fun Motivators for LDS Families, say that when it comes to things of eternal value, how we do things is just as important as what we do. The authors stress that doing things the right way will encourage those we teach to do even better. Then they show us fun, practical, and creative ways to motivate families to do what is right– 52 of them! Chapters include: • “The Gospel Makes Cents” – Gives children “good behavior pennies” to collect in a jar for later rewards. • “Eye Spy” – Helps children to pay attention during sacrament meetings, family home evening, family scripture study, etc. • “Star Sleepers” – Encourages good behaviors at bedtime. Other intriguing ideas include: “SPIT,” “Mormon Ads,” and “The Wimpy Verse Club.”
Try a few or all 52! See what works and what your children like the most. You’ll soon see family members choosing the right because they want to.
